A modern tale of fortune seeking in the world of oil rigs in West Texas. A landman, at least one working in the oil industry, will act as a middleman between exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a landman’s job is to negotiate and finalize agreements with landowners who hold mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent. They essentially manage the land and secure leases so they can drill for oil and gas. Much like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, housing for workers (man camp), oversee the assembly of excavation machinery, and the drilling of the well itself, especially in remote locations. They are also part Fixer, Problem Solver, and Facilitator. Mentioned in CBS News Sunday Morning: Episode #44.24 (2022). This could easily be rated an 8.5 – 9. If not for the embarrassingly sexualized daughter and ex-wife/mother. They have no plot significance whatsoever, and are simply annoying and insulting to the women of West Texas. As a man from far West Texas, I understand what Sheridan meant, but this is awful. The women of West Texas are the strongest, most ambitious women I know. Plus, the writing and acting are great. Sheridan could easily have another Yellowstone on his hands if he could get rid of the very uncomfortable inter-family excitement. But again, I love Sheridan’s writing (and acting) and it’s an absolutely thoroughly enjoyable show, for the most part.
